What is World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD)? WDSD, 21 March, is a global awareness day. The date for WDSD, being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. It is an event created to raise public awareness, promote inclusivity, encourage advocacy, and support the wellbeing of those living with Down Syndrome. The most common way to celebrate WDSD is by wearing CRAZY SOCKS because the genetic makeup of down syndrome (3 copies on the 21st chromosome) resembles socks. So, be sure to wear your CRAZY SOCKS on March 21st and get ready to celebrate!!
